Ins & Outs: My Guide for Life

New Years Resolutions are SO out but this idea is SO in!

19: My Year of Thinking

As the beginning of the new year approached, I watched TikTok or heard people talk about their ‘New Year’s resolutions.’ I have always disliked and never understood this concept – but of course just as everyone around me was an each year I would still always think of ones. Still, inevitably, I would either feel like I had failed them, forget about them, or never even start. They were always simple and had to do with basic things. Starting with ideas like “get good grades in school” or “remember to do my homework,” and as I got older, they transformed into “lose 10lbs” or “find a boyfriend.” While I did have the active intention and desire to do these things, a ‘New Year resolution’ just never felt fun or authentic to me. So this year, after living through a very painful and self-growth/introspection-filled four months, a friend mentioned the concept of “ins and outs” to me.

The Concept:

It is, of course, to each their own. But, the ins and outs are a list of things you want to achieve, bring with you, strive for, pay attention to, pass on as knowledge to others, attempt, put out into the world, etc., or leave behind, work on being better at, manifest, stop doing for the new year or your next year. It’s a range of emotional, mental, and physical things that there’s no pressure to achieve. Still, it’s reminders and goals for yourself to feel confident and rooted in or in often my case to keep myself in line and maybe start to limit the amount of incredibly humbling situations i seem to keep getting myself into!
